The Mallas family decided to build a new home in a different subdivision in Suffolk, mostly for the sake of their children. Other kids for 8-year-old Kelsey and 5-year-old Kiera to play with were scarce in Olde Mill Creek.

On July 4, 2000, with only about 20 families living in the community, The Riverfront 4th of July parade was born. Children and families decorated their bikes, wagons, and even skateboards, and made their way down River Club Drive to show their patriotism in celebration of our nation's Independence Day.
